Bird Garden Trellis 4.5 5 25 26
Great addition to my rose garden! Love this pretty trellis, and hopefully my rose bush will start climbing it as it grows! My only complaint is that it was a bit tricky getting it in place behind my rose bush. The stakes that go in the ground are actually separate from the main body of the trellis, so when I attached them into the bottom of the trellis and then lifted the trellis up to place it behind the rose bush, the stakes kept falling off because it's not like they "snapped" in place -- they were very loose. So I ended up putting some double sided tape inside the hole so they would stay in place as I lifted it up. The only reason I had to do this is because my rose bush is in a corner and the only way I was getting the stakes in the ground behind it without getting a face full of thorns is by getting them behind it and pushing them down with the trellis itself. That might not make sense but you'll see what I mean if you buy it! It's just a minor issue though, otherwise everything else about it is lovely. May 30, 2014
Perfect for my Purpose I ordered this trellis even though one reviewer said it was too flimsy for a clematis. This is the fourth summer for the clematis I attached to the trellis. It is true that this plant gets very heavy. I had it on a wooden trellis four feet tall that I had stained green. As a clematis grows you are supposed to keep adding taller trellises. One trellis would probably never hold an older plant.. I placed the bird trellis about 6 inches in front of the wooden one. The base of the plant is so substantial you can't even see the wooden one behind it. It is even more beautiful than I had envisioned. The backdrop is a narrow (32 inches) stone wall next to an outdoor stairway. Hence it is also somewhat protected from the wind and I don't expect it will topple over. Just to be sure I may drill a couple of screws into the stone wall and secure it with a heavy fish line. I just put it up today and have had two compliments from neighbors already! May 6, 2014
Trellis This was well made and arrived quickly. It looks great against my garage wall. I also purchased the small birdnest stands and they look adorable next to the trellis. July 16, 2014
Nice addition to garage wall The trellis is fairly light weight but well made and very decorative alone. It is not as tall as I had anticipated (do go measure the height against placement wall and do remember to subtract the depth of the in-ground stakes). The fine vining of a small flowered clematis is perfect on this very ornamental piece. June 17, 2014
Bird Garden Trellis I love the look of this trellis, but it is flimsier than I'd expected. When I inserted the pole/pegs part of the item, the one side fit all the way in, but the other did not fit in at the same distance which made it a little lopsided. This didn't matter, as when I pushed the trellis into the dirt, I just pushed one side in a little more than the other. But, the extended pole-feet bent with the pressure of the ground and I am concerned that they might break off at some point, as the metal material is very lightweight and malleable. I had expected the trellis to be wrought iron-like, heavier, more substantial. But, I kept the product. Will see how it lasts over the year. May 11, 2014
As described I purchased this item to use as wall decor on my deck, I am sure it would work well as a trellis. Nice finish. May 1, 2014
Attractive trellis The trellis works well as an attractive way to keep our cats confined to the porch. However, the crossbars extended into the hole for the legs and we had to drill them out in order to get the legs into the frame. Had expected this to be ready when it arrived. Anyone without a good drill will not be able to use it. February 7, 2014
Pretty, but flimsy I bought two of these trellises to support my fall blooming clematis. The trellis is pretty, but the base is not strong enough to support the weight of the clematis once it gets large at the top. The metal which anchors the trellis to the ground bends very easily and with a little wind or rain the trellis has twice bent completely over. July 20, 2013

Answer:
Yes, the 72" includes the height of the ground stakes. My yard is 'contoured' so both sides are not in ground exactly the same depth. I put it together, held it up to the wall for positioning, started the stakes just enough for them to stay in place. I removed the trellis from the stakes and hammered the stakes down to the level I needed. I was afraid to hammer on the trellis - thought it might bend or perhaps even break the joints. It's exactly the look I was going for and I'm very happy with it. I've only had it a couple weeks so I can't speak to the durability factor.

Hope this helps
