Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by great purchase it works great and will never have candles with-out a remote December 6, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Features! Useful, but Not Necessary I am very impressed with the features on this remote. I have lots of flameless candles (varying brands) and their remotes are not able to set the timer function of the candles. This remote does that! You can use this remote to turn the candles off and on and not only can you turn on the timer function, but you can set the amount of time the candle will stay on (2, 4, 6, or 8 hours)! Two other super cool features: 1) the remote can be used to make the candle act like a candle ("flicker") or have the LED remain on (a steady light). The options for this on the remote are under Mode and are labeled "Candle" and "Light". 2) The remote can be used to dim and brighten the LED! There are two options under "Dim" a "-" and a "+" to dim and brighten the light. If you plan on using the timers on the candles, like I do, then you really don't need the remote unless you want to brighten or dim the light (or make it steady). Yes, you sometimes have to be very close to the candle, but I think that is ok. Where these remotes come in handy is when you have them in a display, whether simple or elaborate, and you don't want to use the timer, but you also don't want to disrupt the display by lifting the candles up to turn them off or on. Rated 3 out of 5 by Flamless Candle Remote The concept is great. But does not always work. It works on one set of candles but not on another set of candles. Dissappointed! December 9, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Kind of Useless I wouldn't really call it a remote, since you have to be standing practically on top of the candles for it to work at all. When it does work, it only turns on one or two candles at a time - it can take up to 5 minutes to get them all on using the remote. It is actually quicker to flip the switches on the bottom of the candles one at a time. I gave it two stars for the concept, but the execution gets 0 stars. November 18, 2015

We appreciate your interest in this item. The candles do not require a remote control for operation. This is an optional accessory.

Answer:
The candles work on their own; however, I am very impressed with the features on this remote. Here is my review:

I have lots of flameless candles (varying brands) and their remotes are not able to set the timer function of the candles. This remote does that! You can use this remote to turn the candles off and on and not only can you turn on the timer function, but you can set the amount of time the candle will stay on (2, 4, 6, or 8 hours)!

There are two options under "Dim" a "-" and a "+" to dim and brighten the light.

If you plan on using the timers on the candles, like I do, then you really don't need the remote unless you want to brighten or dim the lid (or make it steady). Yes, you sometimes have to be very close to the candle, but I think that is ok.

Where these remotes come in handy is when you have them in a display, whether simple or elaborate, and you don't want to disrupt the display by lifting the candles to turn them off or on.

How many remotes do you need?
If I were to purchase five of the candles, does one remote work for all five or do I need separate remotes?

Answer:
You only need one remote for the 5 candles; however, don't waste your money on the remote. It doesn't really work very well. You need to stand on top of the candles for it to work and even then it will take 5 minutes to get them all lit. It is quicker to flip the switches on the bottom of the candles.

Answer:
If you still have the instructions that came with the red candles, look to see if it shows the remote. I ordered the gold metallic candles (Item #s 147180, 147181, 147182 - all three sizes) and if I remember correctly, these are identical to the red. I see a Grandin Road customer service rep answered the question stating a different item number for the gold metallic candles that work with this remote; however, the gold candles I ordered work with this remote. It will not work with the blood drip candles, that is for sure. The red metallic candles are a possibility.
