Wilting Black Roses 4.3 5 6 6
I wanted to like it,but it kept disappointing. VISUALLY-It is pretty cheap looking. The roses are basic fake flowers and the vase is obviously plastic and somewhat unattractive in general. FEATURES-It has a cool wilting effect that everyone got a good kick out of.It also has an extremely loud breaking glass sound, which might be okay as a prop in a haunted house etc. There is NO turning off the sound. We had to snip the sound wire. FUNCTIONALITY-The sensor is/was very fickle and worked randomly, whether we passed in front of it or not. After about a week, the flowers started to get caught on each other and prevented one or two flowers from retracting up.Okay..two weeks or so later it stopped working completely! It had fresh batteries and I even replaced them to make sure, nope. REDEEMING QUALITIES-I'd have to say none.I could have dealt with all of the other issues, because the novelty of it is pretty cute. That would be enough if it worked! I hate giving a bad review, but I'd like to possibly save someone from a disappointment. September 21, 2013
Unusual and fun but overpriced These wilting roses are perfect for a gothic mantle were motion can be easily detected (the sensor works 3 out of 5 times. So far 1 of 3 units was replaced by Grandin Road for being defective. This is smaller than I imagined and the front of the vase (where the sensor is located) is actually decorated with a skull instead of the spider pictured (which is located in the back of the vase). The paint job is typically sloppy but looks fine from a distance (I plan to repaint these). The gothic sound is LOUD and cannot be adjusted and is preceded by a glass breaking sound (which doesn't really make sense). The mechanism that retracts the flowers is also somewhat noisy, but in party setting wouldn't be noticed. Overall it's overpriced for the quality but unusual and quite fun. August 29, 2013
Wilting black roses in a vase I loved this item of Grandin Roads as it is unusual and has a wonderful sound of breaking glass and music just before the roses wilt then they will go upright again. I bought 3 of these as I will give two as gifts! Thank you Grandin Road for all of your unusual products for Halloween! I enjoy your online store so much and have told fellow co-workers and friends about you! November 2, 2013
Wilting roses Love these! Great for Halloween. Works wonderfully! November 11, 2013
Wilting Black Roses This is a riot, the only thing I wish it had a volume control on the sound. I brought it to work and the sound was too loud so had to cut the cord to the speaker. But the quality and everything else is good gets a lot of laughs. Good job Grandin Road love your items. August 8, 2013
Wilting Black Roses These are terrific, a great item for my office. Funny and spooky at the same time. I have given a few away as gifts and everyone agrees they are great. August 14, 2013

Answer:
No you cannot. There is one "on/off" switch and that's it. No volume control of any kind. There are 8 tiny screws on the bottom that you can unscrew and snip the wire to the speaker if you want to permanently quell the sound.

Answer:
You cannot turn the music down or off. I opened it up and cut the wire to the speaker inside. It would of been better if they had a volume control on it. But people still aren't expecting it to wilt and its still fun.
