Sometimes your interior home decor needs a finishing touch to bring it all together. Area rugs are a great way to strengthen a design theme by reflecting its colors or adding a vibrant splash to liven up a neutral space.

At Grandin Road, you'll find a beautiful selection of indoor area rugs ready to enhance your living room, dining room, or bedroom with warmth, comfort, and texture.

Area Rug Sizes and Shapes

Our living room rugs come in a wide array of sizes to suit any part of your home. For larger, open spaces and great rooms, look for large area rugs as big as 9 ft. x 12 ft., or larger. More compact areas call for small rugs or accent rugs, so look for those with dimensions starting as little as 2 ft. x 3 ft.

The most common shape for area rugs is the classic rectangle, but we also offer round rugs and the more elongated runner. Let a round area rug introduce a new, intriguing shape to a square room, and choose durable-but-delightful runner rugs for long, narrow spaces like your entryway, hallway, or even behind the kitchen island.

Premium Throw Rug Materials

Our durable area rugs are crafted with a range of high-quality materials, including:

  • Handwoven 100% wool with fringes
  • Hand-tufted wool
  • Art silk and wool blends
  • Space-dyed yarn
  • Polyester and cotton mix

No matter which material you choose, our room rugs are made to be soft and comfortable yet durable enough for daily use.

Colorful Area Rugs with Striking Designs

Our collection of quality, indoor area rugs features a range of sizes, shapes, and materials, so you can select a design that suits your style and complements your decor.

Neutrals and Subdued Colors

Living room area rugs in neutral tones and solids offer versatile, understated elegance and let the texture of the fiber speak for itself. Look for designs with a rich patina, pastels, or jewel tones for a well-worn aesthetic to subtly accompany your furniture.

Bold Patterns and Prints

When you want a colorful area rug to act as the center of attention, search our selection for rugs with bright colors, bold geometric patterns, or floral prints. Unique carpet designs like intricate medallion patterns make your area rug the focal point of the room.

From hand-tufted area rugs to woven area rugs and beyond, we've got artfully constructed pieces to anchor the rest of your furniture and decor. Shop the Grandin Road area rug collection by color, size, use, and style to update your space with rugs.

Area Rug FAQs

What can I use to keep area rugs in place?

Use a rug pad underneath your area rug to keep it from sliding around and scratching your floors. Your rug pad should be a couple of inches shorter than the edges of the rug to avoid having it stick out from beneath.

How do you clean an area rug?

The best way to clean an area rug depends on its material. You can clean an outdoor rug using a hose but indoor rugs may require more delicate cleaning and spot treatment. Refer to the care instructions for your particular rug to avoid damaging it.

Can you put an area rug over carpet?

You can absolutely put an area rug on carpet. Look for a rug with a texture and pattern that is different from the carpet you're placing it on. For example, if you have low-pile carpeting in a solid color, then choose a plush rug with a pattern for contrast.

How do you flatten an area rug and get rid of bumps?

If you've got rugs with kinks, dents, or flipped-up edges, you probably want to get rid of those unwanted imperfections. For upturned edges, try flipping the rug fiber-side down and let gravity pull the corners, edges, and bumps flat. You can also try adding weight to the affected areas to speed up the process. Depending on the rug material, you may also be able to use water and heat to help flatten out your rug.
