Crawling Halloween Monster Hand 4.2 5 80 86
Creepy Crawly Hands Also Good For Grasping These hands work very well. They do not look as realistic in person as they do in pictures, but that is probably a good thing, especially when it comes to easily frightened small children. They can be turned on, off, or set to respond to sound. If the sound sensor is used, they will walk about thirty seconds before shutting off automatically. We set two of them up beside our front door, and knocks on the door set them off. This scared the youngest kids (3 or so), but thrilled everyone else. We also figured out an alternative way to use these hands. We put them wrist side down, so their thumbs rested on the ground and their fingers were up and pointed outward. When the sensor was triggered, they did not walk, but they looked pretty spooky, like they were trying to reach out to grab your ankles. That's how we ended up using them most of the night. Not as great as I'd hoped I had hoped this would be cooler that it is. I don't like that you MUST push the button to get it to work. It would be great if it were motion-activated, or perhaps could be set to crawl every few minutes, after people have forgotten that it's there. As it is, needing to push the button is kind of disappointing. Also, other reviewers are right, being able to see the battery compartment and yellow button where the hand is "amputated" kind of kills the illusion. It really is cool, but the distracting negatives ruin it for me. If I had bought it for half-price I'd keep it, but for full price, it's going back. September 19, 2012
Cool Prop! As I am hosting another Halloween party at our home, I decided upon an Addams family theme this year. This prop fits right in! It works well and looks creepy enough. I only wish that it had its own cover to snap over the top control panel...it detracted away from the spooky effect. I will, however, create a "lid" with dripping red hot glue formed over it with aluminum foil. August 24, 2012
Not such a good purchase I bought the crawling monster hand because of the video I saw on Grandin Road's web site and I wanted to add it to my collection of Halloween decorations. When I got it I tired it out and I did like the creepy look of the monster hand, the way it crawls across the floor. The only thin is that when I had to change the batteries, the lid to the battery box broke and it's unable to close securely. I may have to call customer support to get a replacement lid to the battery box, but I suggest to those who are considering in getting this crawling monster hand is to save your money and do not get this product. Easy I got this hand last Halloween, and my guests definitely got a kick out of it. It worked well, walking across the hardwood floor with clacking fingernails. Other reviewers are correct in saying that the stump having a visible battery compartment and switch ruins the illusion. I still gave the product 5* because it was easy to remedy. I just wrapped the end in a little cheesecloth "bandage". The bandage could be stained with a little fake blood, or not, depending on the gore-level desired. August 3, 2013
Good in theory I don't know if I received a lemon version, but this hand doesn't crawl AT ALL. I put it down on a hard floor surface, and at best it does a weird rocking back and forth motion, as if it's kind so spazzing out or on it's last legs (or rather, fingers!). I should have returned it. I figured I would repurpose it in a different display, since it wouldn't have been worth the shipping to send back. Disappointing purchase (unusual for all the wonderful items I've purchased through GR). October 30, 2014
Monster hand was beyond perfect for Halloween This item caught my eye at a party store for about 10 dollars more. I went online and found it at Grandin Road with free shipping. It came in plenty of time for Halloween. I ordered it for our Addams family themed group costume. It was perfect. My husband who was Lurch carried it around on a silver tray. We were out at a street festival and got so many comments and compliments on it. I am very pleased with the purchase. November 7, 2014
Creepy Crawling I really like this product. It looks spooky and sounds realistic. I purchased another hand from another retailer that crawls on walls, although that was cool, the motor is very loud - louder than a vacuum cleaner. Which takes away from the spooky. I really liked this product. October 17, 2011
