Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I ordered two of these planters a few months ago and decided to hold off on writing a review until I could see how the self-watering feature performed. First of all, the planters look great and are definitely big enough that they make a statement. Secondly, in regards to the performance, they are great performers! There are two ways you can water your plants; either through the dirt or through the top hole, and no need to worry about whether or not you are adding too much water because these planters have a tattle tale hole about a third of the way up, so make sure you face that side of the box toward an area that you don't mind water spilling out or in a non visible direction. At first I thought that hole was a defect until I saw it on the second planter I purchased and realized what it was for. You can't go wrong with these planters, my flowers look great in them and they are very low maintenance due to the self watering feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Devon Large Planter The large Devon self-watering planter is very nice. I ordered the black one to match our shutters. It is large enough that I don't worry about the soil drying out and the size has some presence in our small rowhouse garden.

Will these planters survive outside in a Chicago winter

I want to put fake boxwoods in them and leave them out all year. Will they crack during winter?
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest in the Devon Self-watering Patio Planter. This item is designed to be an all-weather planter and can be left out during the winter. However, we do recommend draining this item of water during winter months, even when using faux greenery. Please note, this planter should not crack in winter, but storing in a shed or garage does offer the best protection during extreme cold.

Can these be placed right next to each other to cover a patio seam?

If I buy 3 of these and want them to go side by side in order to cover a patio seam will they fit side by side? Or will there be a large, visible gap?
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest in the Devon Self-watering Patio Planter. If you place three of these side by side, there will be visible gaps between them due to the molding around the top and bottom of these planters.

How does this self watering planter work?

Asked by: Anonymous
There's a trough at the bottom of the planter that holds water. You can either water directly through the dirt or through a hole on the top edge of the planter. Near the bottom of the planter on one side there is a tattle tale hole about a third of the way up that drains excess water so your plants are not over watered. The dirt slowly absorbs water from the bottom trough. I water once every two weeks for my planter that's in the shade and once a week for the one in the sun.
