36"H Freestanding Wooden Pet Gate is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 398.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! These gates are substantial and sturdy with a high quality durable finish. Our wonder puppy has springs on his feet and jaws of steel. So far the gates are winning. I have no fear of him knocking them over plus they look like part of the decor - so much better than rubber baby gates. Highly recommend as a long term investment. Everything we have ever ordered from Grandin Road has been top quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive gate So glad I went ahead and spent the money to buy the pet gate. It is so attractive and makes a nice decorative piece to add to the living room. It is also very easy to step over if you need to enter the room.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Useful I purchased a freestanding wooden pet gate for our laundry room doorway. It keeps the dogs out of the cat food. I purchased the 20" so the cat can jump over it. It is also easier to step over myself. I'm glad I found this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very stylish! We have two dogs that we like to keep off carpeted areas when we are not home. This gate is perfect as it works for a standard interior door and also covers the French doors to our office. I like that it Looks like furniture more than it does a gate. The design makes it very flexible. It weighs enough so that the dogs don’t push it over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very attractive I am very impressed with this product. It's very sturdy and high quality. This was a 5 panel. I then bought a 3 panel for another area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice looking I just received the “antique white” pet gate, I should have paid attention to the “antique” part of the color because I wasn’t expecting distressed (the color on the edges were wiped off to give an appearance of age). I like the looks of it and the bright white color. Overall for the price it looks good and works for my 2 cats.

Are the width dimensions  with the gate fully extended i.e. flat . Will the gate support itself fully extended flat?

Asked by: barely
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Wooden Pet Gate. The dimensions listed are of this gate fully extended; however, it will not support itself when fully extended. The three panel gate is 72-3/4"W overall when stretched our straight; it will cover approximately a 36"W opening and still be stable.

Does this gate have "feet" to go with it to make it even more stable? (Childproofing and want more security to keep from toppling over.) Thank you.

Asked by: Anonymous
No. We added felt pads where the pieces meet to make it easier to scoot around our wood floors. Our gate is the 5 piece and it would be hard to knock over unless you had it completely folded up and left it standing in place.

Is the width of this gate 72 inches when stretched out straight or when positioned zig-zaggedly, sturdily in a doorway?

What is the maximum width the 5 panel gate can cover as a freestanding gate?

Trying to cover a 9.5 ft doorway
Asked by: LAMA
flat out it will cover the 9feet but it needs to have some bends in it to be stable. I have mine wedged covering a 7' opening and I have a lot of gate but it is also considerably more stable because it is not stretched out flat.

Can 5-panel gate be separated into 2 gates?

I am wondering if you can separate the 5-panel gate into 2 gates - a 3-panel and 2-panel. I think this would work better for our needs. Thank you for your help.
Asked by: lamt17
no it is all one piece. I suppose you could take it apart yourself but I'm not sure it would work as well if you did. Maybe consider 2 of the 3 panel gates.

Free standing three panel dog wood gate.

I have a 71 inch opening and am wondering if the three panel gate will be big enough or will I need the five panel gate?
Asked by: Anonymous
I would get the 5 panel for a 71" opening the 3 panel only really does about 5'9" solidly.
Answered by: 702kellyw

How large an opening does the 3 panel gate cover and remain stable?

Asked by: Anonymous
solidly about 5'9". It is tall so the dogs don't really try it but if a dog wanted to jump on it and it was a big dog, it could be knocked over. I have 6 border collies from age 5months to 9 years, very active and very smart and no one bothers it. Even when we accidentally trapped the cat in the corner, we didn't knock it over.

My yorkie is very energetic, can he push it so he can squeeze areound the side or even jump on it and knock it over? And can a 3# puppies get thru the slats?
Asked by: bailey2
the three foot gate blocks a solid 5'(" opening, I got the larger to block a 7" opening and I have lots of gate so I could block a larger opening.

How does the gate remain in position?

Since it's freestanding, I'm wondering how the gate remains upright and in place if an energetic dog flings himself against it!
Asked by: Carol
We place additional support on each end. Since we use it on our porch we put a plant at each end in front of the gate against the porch railing. In addition to the Beagle we also have a German Sheppard and a Jack Russell Terrier and we have not had any "breakthroughs."

What size

We have a 10 pound, 13 inch tall schnauzer that gets very excited when there is noise at the door. We need to contain her. The door way is 54 inches wide. Do we need the 3 or 5 panel ? Would you suggest the 20 inch high or 36 inch high ? Thank you
Asked by: las
I have the 20" for my small dogs, but they don't jump high. Not sure if your schnauzer is a jumper but I love the 20" size because I can easily cross over it without moving it. If you have a dog that jumps I might consider the 36".

I would like to purchase the free standing wood gate #37090 but need about 3 more panels as my length is 144 ft long. Are you able to attach a 3 panel

gate to a 5 panel gate?
