Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Planter We installed a beautiful new front door and this gorgeous planter really adds the finishing detail that I was looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these This was my second purchase and I love them. Only wish manufacturer could have drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. I did, and now they are perfect. Use them this summer for geraniums and at Christmas with small trees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great planters I bought this to put out by the garage. It’s the perfect height and the bright white makes my house pop. I also love how there are inserts so you don’t have to fill it all up with dirt. Love these!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cannot withstand heat and cold I purchased 2 of these planters 3 years ago and while the outside still looks pretty good, the removable insert trays warped and now do not stay in place which causes the dirt to fall to the bottom. This obviously renders the planter unusable as a "self-watering" planter. I have attempted to work with customer service (traded several emails) to resolve the issue and even offered to purchase the replacment part but Grandinroad was not willing to sell it to me (the warranty period is 1 year). For this reason, I would not recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and functional They are substantial and look beautiful at my front door. They securely hold a good sized plant.

Do you sell any kind of liner for the tapered urn ? Doesn’t seem to work well to plant live plants in there, even bought a cocoa type mat from. Ursey to hold the dirt , still seems like the shelf gets too heavy and drops down .only designed for fake plant

Asked by: Jboyle
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Tall Tapered Planter. This item is designed to hold both fake and real plants. If the insert is designed to sit securely approximately half way down the inside section of this planter and a lightweight potting mix is recommended. If you need further assistance, we recommend contacting our customer service at 1-888-263-9850 or service@frontgate.com.

do i have to use a potted plant or can i add soil and then plant..also where do i add the water

Asked by: Kate69
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Tall Tapered Planter. You can put soil and plants directly into this planter, and then add water directly to the soil. The integrated self-watering system will allow any excess water to fill the internal reservoir so the roots, once established, can "self water" from the reservoir as needed.

Do I need to weigh down planter so it does not top heavy?

Asked by: Margaret Mary
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Tall Tapered Planter. You should not need to add weight to the bottom of this planter as the self-watering system allows water to fill the water reservoir at the bottom which will add weight. However, if you wish to add more weight to the bottom the insert can be removed and weight added underneath it.

Since the color Neptune is not available can another color be painted?

Asked by: Dtrim
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Tall Tapered Planter. We do not recommend painting this item as many paints will not stick well to the polyethylene this item is made of. Please note that painting this item could also void the warranty.

Is their a drain hole?

From what I understand, I can plant my own flowers or buy a preplanted pot?
Asked by: Anonymous
It has drain holes in the removable tray insert. You do need to drill drainage holes in the exterior. The instructions include information on two different drainage options. Option 1 requires holes on the side to utilize the water trough system. Option 2 requires holes in the bottom for use as a regular planter.

So confused..

Ok so there's no drain hole.. but a self watering system to be used w/a liner? How does that drain?? Obviously this isn't rocket science but I want to make sure I understand how this works . These are on the pricey side, which I'm fine with but want to make sure they are for me!!
Asked by: Anonymous
Because there are 2 ways to use the planter (with or without a water reservoir) the drainage holes are not pre-drilled. There should have been instructions in the shipping box with your planter showing you where to drill drainage holes depending on how you want to use the planter. I kept the liner in mine and drilled a hole at the top right corner of the lower "box" design. The instructions have illustrations to help you see where to drill. Then I filled the troughs with pebbles, the soil on top for my plants. It was really easy.

How much does the planter weigh?

I need to know if the planter is heavy enough not to blow away or over in a storm.
Asked by: Anonymous
I would suggest a layer of stones in bottom. the planter feels heavy, but I think placing plants in the top will make it "top heavy'. I put about a dozen pond stones in the bottom of my planter because the Boston Fern on top is lightweight.
