Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classy window box Purchased one in the green for my daughter's house. Matched the shutters on her house perfectly. We loved them so much that she order a larger one in the green and 2 in the smaller ones for the Windows on her storage shed! We have received nothing but compliments on them. They are simply gorgeous! So very happy with our purchases!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME! Wow . . I can't believe how beautiful this window box is! I have 5 window boxes on the front of my home which needed to be replaced. Bought them at HD about 5 years ago and they are just the standard plastic window boxes. I only ordered one window box in red from Grandinroad because they were on the pricey side. But OMG . . now I see why they cost that price. You cannot find a window box anywhere which compares in any store. At least I couldn't. Now I have to order 4 more. It is stunning, if you can call a window box stunning. Better than how it shows in the picture. And will make a huge transformation to the outside of your home. I can't wait to get it put up and get the 4 remaining ones!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Neptune Blue is not as expected Be warned - the neptune blue looks fantastic on the website - bright, shiny and sharp royal looking blue. It is not. It is dull (no shine), and more of a country (country with a k) blue than the vibrant royal blue as shown on the website and in catalogue. So disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase Exactly as pictured in the catalog, easy to mount, stunning accent to our garage window!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice deep planter I haven't put this up yet but it looks like a nice quality planter and has a good depth for planting. I have to have my handyman put it up because I don't want to try doing it myself. I expect it to be great though and can't wait to plant. It's been cold here so I've waited a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful planter It is a lovely, sturdy planter exactly as pictured in the catalog. It should look like new for years to come and fits perfectly on my window ledge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to brighten a very blah window This planter is lovely. Nice size and the design is nice to keep it from drying out quickly. We had to add some additional materials for mounting due to the location we were putting the planter but all went well it just took some time and two of us for a couple steps. Ours was placed high and it was the biggest size available. It really brightens up the area. Good purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice addition The Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter is a beautiful addition to our home. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classy Look The Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter is just what I had in mind to complete my front yard landscaping. It pulls the whole window area together, and the self-watering feature is great. It's a little pricey, but I'm hoping it will last for years. I'd recommend it to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nantucket self-watering Window planter I really like the looks of this. It looks like wood, but lightweight. Just the right size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter Love the way these window planters look and looking forward to not having to paint them every year!
Date published: 2014-06-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks good, but two slight problems I love the functionality of the planters, but they could be improved slightly to be even better. The weight of the corbels on the brackets causes them to sag a little and not stay firmly against the bottom of the planter. There must be some sort of fastener that could be used that wouldn't compromise the bottom of the planter, to fix that. Also, since houses and sheds so often have siding, and using strapping behind the boxes to attach them is recommended in that case, the sides of the boxes should have a little lip. That way the strapping wouldn't show when viewed from the sides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nantucket Self -watering Window Planter What you see is what you get! This Window planter is perfect for putting an abundance of flowers in it without worrying about the roots taking hold and your plants dyeing after one month like most widow boxes sold in stores. This purchase was worth every dime. Please note because it is so deep you may have to move existing brackets lower so your window is not covered up by the flowers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Self-watering Window Planter Excellent quality window box. This is my second window box purchase because I just loved the first one so much. Easy to put up and has no maintenance.

Looks amazing on my window, even though my window is a 5Feet size, I got a 4F planter when you add your flowers looks Amazing! Perfect! It gives my house a great curb appeal! I'm really happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Corbels are great, but.... Don't know why I got an opportunity to review just the corbels, because I bought the window boxes as well. And together they are fabulous! We've just built a new house and my son installed the window boxes for me and I've just returned from the nursery ready to plant some pretty flowers. They make an awesome look to the side of our house which will most likely be the entrance friends and family use most. Love them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous! I have never written a review before but had to as soon as I got this out of its box!!! It is beautiful and very well made! I am so excited about it even though there is snow and ice on the ground right now! Had been looking at this product and the planter for quite some time and took advantage of the Cyber Monday sale, so glad I did! Merry Christmas to me!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these Planters I ordered the Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter and 1 set of corbels in black. Shipping was as expected--on-time. My husband and father-in-law installed it. It was pretty easy following the instructions. Once installed, I liked the planter better without the corbels. In my opinion, the corbels did not look good against the planter. Even though the planter was on the 2nd story of our home, you could actually see that the corbels (made of plastic) did not match the quality make of the planter. It looks beautiful and worth the money spent. I couldn't be happier. The planter is right outside my home office window. I wish I could share a picture of it to give you the full effect. If you decide to get it, I hope it's because of my review because you won't regret it. Good Luck with your purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great planter! I first bought two self-watering planters for my lake cottage, as I am not always there to water. They are a bit pricey, so I gave it a season with just two. Those planters receive full sun. I put vermicuite in the bottom few inches and filled the bottom with water before adding soil and plants. I did use moisture control soil, as I always do. My window boxes usually suffer mid-summer as they do not receive regular watering during the week. . My plants looked amazing all summer long! So.... i bought four more to replace the rest of my flower boxes. I also added the corbels to the ones from last year (the rest are too low for corbels). The corbels are pretty expensive for what they are....hollow plastic that gets screwed (not pre-drilled) onto the brackets. They do, however, add to the overall look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Addition to Outdoor Decor Purchased a white 4' window box and matching corbels. My neighbor and I easily installed it on the house. To keep weight down, I put vermiculite in the bottom of the box (the white stuff you see in quality potting soil to hold moisture). It's available at good gardening centers. Then filled with high-quality potting soil and plants. It's doing very well after a few weeks and the window box watering system makes plant-care a breeze. Thanks, Grandin Road. Will let you know how it stands up to a N. Michigan winter . . .

Watering System/Liner

Do plants and soil go directly into the window box or into a liner? Is a liner provided? Is use of a liner or use of no liner required for self-watering? Can you send the packing sheet so I can see? How can you tell when it is time to water? Christine in CT
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter. There is no linger required for this item. The double-walled polyethylene construction evenly distributes water to roots. Regular watering will be required for the first few weeks while plant's roots develop; then only occasional watering is needed.

Which 'red' is accurate?

I would like to order the red window planter, however, I am not sure which color sample online to trust. The picture of the planter itself shows a brighter red color, whereas the sample color of red shows something more rustic, like a barn red. Which one is the true red color?
Asked by: Heather
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter. The red color option is a bright, saturated red color.

How do I get the water out from within the planter?

When I take the plug out and turn it upside down the water then goes to the top of the planter inside.
Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Self-watering Window Planter. To provide direct access to the water reservoir we recommend drilling a 3/4" hole in the top or back side of the planter as described in the instructions. This hole should then be covered with the included rubber plug. Once this is done the water can be drained, if needed, by removing the plug and turning the planter so the hole is down.

Do I need to place stones in bottom for drainage?

Asked by: Lauren
I used a liner in mine since it's in an awkward spot for me to get to. However I believe the instructions tell you to use wood chips if I'm not mistaken. I've used styrofoam pieces in other planters and it works great so that would be an option.

description

The description on this product is vague. Can you provide more details? What material is it made of? How does it self-water?
Asked by: Anonymous
There is a drainage system built into the bottom and it stores water. It does work. However I have mine in a rather awkward place so I found a small liner which I've been using. However I did order another larger box from the same line and will be using that one the regular way this coming Spring. It is a very pretty box.

Do you recommend a box length shorter or wider than the window frame?

My window frame extends just shy of 5 ft while the glass within extends just passed 4 ft.
Asked by: ready-to-order
They do recommend wider but mine is a little smaller than window and I love it. It's a well made window box.

Can these be mounted to a deck railing?

Asked by: Anonymous
Thank you for your interest in the Nantucket Self-Watering Window Planter. There are brackets that have to be screwed into your exterior wall to hold this item; it is designed to be installed under the window. To install on your desk railing, the brackets to hold the planter would need to be screwed into your deck railing side wall . It is not designed for the brackets to go over your deck railing.

Planter size per window

I have 36 inch windows , two together on one side of the house and three together on the other. Should I get 2 foot or 3 foot planters per window? Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
I have a 36 inch window and I got the 4 foot window box. 2 foot is definitely too small and if you have shutters on the windows, you should go slightly longer than the window. The window box should extend slightly to underneath the shutters. I have shutters so I got the 4 foot.
