At first, I made the mistake of thinking it was defective because I didn't realize there were 2 switches to turn it on. There's an on/off switch for the timer on the back, and another button on the side to turn it on. It's an eye-catching piece, and is actually quite large. It makes a very faint humming sound that you can't hear when you're more than a few feet away. I was on the fence about this piece for a long time due to cost, but I could not resist such a fantastic sale. I'm honestly surprised that it's still available at this price point. If you're considering it, just get it. It's much more unusual and of better quality than the typical big-chain halloween decor, and well worth the price. Grandin Road is my favorite place for unique Halloween pieces, and this shadow box does not disappoint.

Unlike most reviewers have stated, the motor sound is barely noticeable (unless you are very close to it). I adore this piece and it will be hung year round in my man cave. Stunning animated light effect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Amfp from Mesmerizing! We love this animated shadow box! It is mesmerizing to watch and will provide creepy fun all year round! There is a quiet hum that adds to its aura of mystery! We just received it so we don’t know about durability, but quality appears good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by AJRinATX from Looks cool (for the one day it worked) I purchased this a few weeks before Halloween. Took it out of the box the day before Halloween to set it up for a party. Put in batteries and it worked fine (it was noisy, but I expected that from reading the reviews). Next day the lights would come on but the arms didn't move. Changed the batteries but that didn't help. So now it is a nice picture, but without the movement it doesn't really have any effect. Nice concept, poor execution.
